Attitude Problem

Hello dear all! It's 2013 and the end of my first semester of 3rd year =O Time flies by so fast O.O

I don't know whether is it I've became bitter with life, or it's just a normal process of aging but I seem to find a lot of things to complain recently XD But to my defense, people keep agitating me. Well, not many people but the specific people that I meet every morning when I go to university every morning and the people I meet during the evenings when I have dinner.

If you start your day bad and end your day bad, safe assured that you'll feel agitated the whole day.

So the award of MOST BAD-DAY INDUCING PEOPLE in my life (and certainly to a majority of people who stay in my college):

THE BUS DRIVERS,

So this is how the ideal bus driver should be: Smile, polite, uniformed (this guy appears to be wearing shorts but let's just close one eye, open one eye haha).

But being in Malaysia, our standard for all forms of service and product is greatly lowered. So what I would expect of a Malaysian bus driver is: Keep quiet and driver properly. You want to ignore us, better. Frown, fine. Just drive us to our destination safely.

So from my 1st to 2nd year here, I had no problems with the drivers. Some of them are actually really nice =) There was once me and my friend took the wrong bus going back to another college. It was Friday afternoon and the driver is rushing to go for Friday prayers but he didn't threw us by the road. He fetch us back knowing that he might be late for prayers. Thank you =)

But come 3rd year, these new batch of drivers came. Oh yea I should tell you this first. At our branch campus, the shuttle bus to and fro the college and campus is not UKM buses but rented bus from a bus company. Everyday our uni have to pay an average of RM1k (I think? Don't quote me on this. I heard this from someone else who was criticizing us about our inability to appreciate our luck and things around us) PER BUS so we can travel. Every year the normal long distance travel bus drivers will take turns to drive us and come every new academic year or maybe even just a few months, a new batch of drivers come and take over the existing ones.

So, proceed! Ahem ahem. This year 2 new guys came. I don't know what's wrong with these 2 guys but they are THE epitome of HORRIBLE BUS DRIVERS. We shall call one Cap Boy and the other Frowny Face. And below shall be the stories that will further explain how 'argh' inducing these two are.

First story: Once upon an early morning (=.=) I went down to the bus stop and, oh hooray! =D there is a bus waiting for me. It's 7.25am at that time (yes it's relevant to the story) and so I sat there and daydreamed about whatever. More and more people boarded the bus and it's kinda full already but still, Cap Boy is still puffing about in his nicotine heaven and chatting with his friends at the pondok. Fed up, one of my junior went down to ask the driver to get going, because they have class at 8am. He came up and someone asked him why is Cap Boy still smoking? He replied with a fed up face, saying that his bus is the 8.00am bus. What the heck?! Buses in the morning go when the bus is full! The bus is full but still he ain't going! (We double confirmed this with another bus driver the next day) Excuses =.= At 8.00am plus, he came up and shouted something along the lines of 'ADA BUS 7.30 TAK NAK NAIK. SEKARANG NI BUS PUKUL 8.00AM TAPI MINTA SAYA JALAN AWAL.'

Please!

Gek.

The second story is about Frowny Face. Perpetually frowning. I went down early again, probably around 7.20am. The earlier bus went quite early because there are many people queuing up already but still next bus is no where to be found. We were getting kind of anxious because we have exam at 8.30am. Finally, the bus came at 7.45am but the bus refuse to go! My friend went and talk to him, in a gentle and not rude tone, asking him can he depart now? Because we got exams soon.

Then he started booming, 'CIS! KALAU NAK PERGI AWAL TURUN AWAL LA.' And lots of nonsense which made my blood boil.

Evaporating blood. Hahaha.

Malaysian mentality. YOUNG Malaysian mentality. Haha talk like my dad but seriously, if you compare two people who have the same job but different age, in this case bus drivers, the older one will be more responsible, soft spoken and if any problem arise, much more reasonable to talk to. The younger one... I really have nothing to say...

Bus driving is a profession also I think. In the sense that you are now a driver who specialises in driving buses and you have a responsibility to bring people to and from destinations. You have ethics, things that you must, should and can't do. And SCREAMING and CURSING at passengers is definitely something you must not do.

There are people who want to respect you guys, be grateful for your presence so we don't have to walk to uni or bring our own car to go to uni but with attitude like that, NO one will respect you. And it will not bring you far in life.

Gek.

Malaysian Aboriginals

Ever thought of Orang Asli or Malaysian Aboriginals? Until recently, I thought Orang Asli are bumiputras such as Kadazandusuns, Iban, Bajaus, Bidayuh, but not Malays. Sometimes, I even use the terms interchangeably. My mom always gave me a weird look when I talk about my 'Orang Asli' friends from university. When I went to Taman Negara a while back, I was cleared of my misconceptions. Orang Asli are not the ethnic groups from Sabah/Sarawak. They are Orang Asli, another ethnic group on its own. How come I never knew that? Either I have studied it in Sejarah but don't remember it (Hey, who else remembered the contents of Wawasas 2020 which I tried to etch it into my mind the night before SPM paper? I don't. None of it. Conclusion: No one remembers what is mentioned in sejarah textbook.) or it is not mentioned in our history syllabus. If it is the latter, I am really pissed off because as the first settlers of peninsula Malaysia, shouldn't they provide more we...

It's December!

Stating the obvious is one way to start a blog post (as per my opinion). Of course, if it is unacceptable, please tell me. Maybe a philosophical quote would be better, preferably in Latin (Do you know Germans get to learn Latin as a second language? So cool! A German couple told us when my family were in Taman Negara). Or maybe to you, the sentence ‘It’s December!’ is worth deciphering from the philosophical point of view. Let me just tell you: There is none. I really am just stating the obvious because I have no idea what to write as the title (as always). So why am I here again? One is because I just went to a happy place! And happy events are always worth blogging down. Oh ok ok, I am also happy during the other times I am not blogging too. So what other reason made me want to blog today? Well, long story short: My lecturer said my English is not up to standard. Yup. Personally I think my English is not too bad (Definitely better than the Malaysian population). But who knows ri...

How I became a barista and how it's like working as one.

It surprises me that people still don't know what does 'barista' means. Barista is defined as ' a person whose job involves preparing and serving different types of coffee'. I was working as one for 5 months and basically, I make coffee and serve it to customers. It's my longest job to date, providing me something legal to do and earning some pocket money during my wait (still waiting for at time of writing. 9 months and counting.) (I'm putting the word 'legal' in because I'm still feeling a bit bitter about the fact that some of my friends actually took the opportunity to do illegal locum. Hey ho, that's people to you.) After my final professional examination (which was in August 2015), I told myself to enjoy my holidays but as usual, I got bored and restless and found myself a job as a research assistant. But it wasn't a satisfying job because: 1. I have to travel all the way to PJ on weekdays. 2. Get stuck in the jam for a total...
