Work and... I'm old.

During the start of the holidays I was moaning about having no job for the 1st month. But now I'm REALLY grateful I did not have a job during that period haha. Enabled me to laze around and more importantly, watch Olympics 24/7 XD

Plus, I already got a 1.5 weeks job during the end of August which is...

Cashering at BookFest 2012! People always mistaken it and call it as Popular Book Fair (I used to have this misconception as well) but after working there are 11 days (!!!), I learn to properly call it as BookFest, organised by Popular, but still have other publishers and companies there as well (9 days of answering customer's question with this answer XD)

The 1.5 week was erm... ERM...

psst my pay isn't out yet

Enjoyable to say the least. The people there are awesome =) I seriously love everyone especially those I worked with at our cashier lane =) We 10 (in a lane) are people of totally different personality but that's what makes working together so fun XD

And thank god I was assigned to the English Department. If I was assigned to Chinese Department, I think my customers will be very displeased with my Chinese capabilities (not a banana but... too much Chinese makes my head hurt XD Especially books from Taiwan with 'fan ti zhi'). Wouldn't mind if I was assigned to The Lifestyle Pavillion where they sell CDs and stationaries but I heard work there is a bit tougher due to the big crowd and... Can you imagine scanning 100++ small items like eraser and pencil? o.O

So yea cashiering at my English Department is the best =D I ADORE english books.

All cashiers and cashier supervisors from our department =)

And this is our lane =) 6 cashiers 3 packers and 1 supervisor. Everyone is super awesome! =) Miss all of them...

Working as a cashier, you can really observe totally different kinds of people. You can totally predict what kind of books certain kind of people will buy etc.

Some more memorable types of people and customers I've had:

1. Families where the wife takes charge.

I was surprised that there are so many families where the wife will be grumpy and scolding and picking on the husband =S Once, I've scanned all the items and the husband was going to pass me his credit card when the wife snatched the card over and scolded him, 'I haven't say you can pay!'

O.O

And there was a lot of cases where the wife is certainly the boss. It wasn't as obvious as the above mentioned case, but you can see the wife, with her arms folded, staring at the cashier (me o.O) and giving an occasional glare at the husband.

Scary...

2. Young families/ couples who are married...

... who buys books titled 'Getting Pregnant Faster', 'Guidebook to Breastfeeding', '6000 baby names' etc. You get the gist. When I see these books I'll look at the couple and think to myself: Ooo... Trying to get pregnant... And I have to resist myself from laughing T.T Dunno what's so funny but I still feel like laughing.

3. Teenagers and middle aged aunts...

... who buy Fifty Shades of Grey bundle pack. I also have to control a grin from rising on my face when I see the book, look up from the books and barcodes and without exception, they are always teenagers OR middle aged aunts XD

For those not in the know, Fifty Shades of Grey is a trilogy with sexual themes revolving around BDSM (Sadistic and masochism). It is... Porn of women. And well, from this observation, I'll say, teenage girls and middle age aunts are the horniest people? XD

And erm if I was not wrong, the Fifty Shades of Grey bundle pack was sold off without 2-3 days of the BookFest and they restocked it during the few final days. That's how popular that book is.

and how horny some women are hahahahaha

PS: I've never read the book before okay! >=O

And... There are many many types of customers la. Some are typical and are boring so I'll not elaborate on those. Like... Families with children, who buys LOADS of children book (duh), young adults who buy business books etc.

Oh another one of my favourite customer is this 40 year old looking lady. She bought A LOT of books, but of different variety. Her first basket was piled sky high with novels written by Danielle Steele, and other romance novels. Her second basket was filled with books by Donald Trump and Warren Buffett (best sellers throughout the fest. They are really discounted).

She put of the contents of her first basket on the table and said.

'These are for toilet reading.'

The second basket, 'These are for serious reading.'

I forgot how how conversation went but I knew I had fun talking to her =) And that I recommended her to build a library in her toilet XD

So those are the most memorable things of my days at work: My new found friend and the customers. The money counting, credit card swiping, preparing float, DCCF filling, standing up for 12 hours with only 1-2 hours break in between... Those are things that I don't really wanna remember. I still dream about those things now o.O Haha...

On another note,

I'M FINALLY OF VOTING AGE!

Everyone has at least a bit of redness on us =)

And I bought so much presents for myself. Where from? From BookFest la of course. Never bought so many books at one go o.O

And I shall spend the remaining of my holidays with my first love wee~

How I became a barista and how it's like working as one.

It surprises me that people still don't know what does 'barista' means. Barista is defined as ' a person whose job involves preparing and serving different types of coffee'. I was working as one for 5 months and basically, I make coffee and serve it to customers. It's my longest job to date, providing me something legal to do and earning some pocket money during my wait (still waiting for at time of writing. 9 months and counting.) (I'm putting the word 'legal' in because I'm still feeling a bit bitter about the fact that some of my friends actually took the opportunity to do illegal locum. Hey ho, that's people to you.) After my final professional examination (which was in August 2015), I told myself to enjoy my holidays but as usual, I got bored and restless and found myself a job as a research assistant. But it wasn't a satisfying job because: 1. I have to travel all the way to PJ on weekdays. 2. Get stuck in the jam for a total

SOULed OUT

I'm gonna talk about FOOD again! My favourite blogging topic muahahaha. I have other passions too but there are all pretty... Scientific? Haha they will bore you to death. So yea, food is the best topic to blog about =) Especially here in Malaysia food connects us all. I've only met a person who doesn't enjoy eating (WHY!?). She is weird (You know who you are haha) First, a HUGE cup of coffee to awaken your senses. My daddy always order a kopi O whenever possible. I think he fancies himself as a Kopi O connoisseur haha =3 But I keep my distance from coffee. Coffee makes me jittery and anxious. Even drinking tea makes my heart go on overdrive grr. Mummy has been wanting to visit SOULed OUT since awhile ago but we just didn't get around to visiting the place, until today. SOULed OUT has two branches but we went to the one in Sri Hartamas. Took us quite some time (and a lot of help from iPhone's Maps application) but we manage to find the place. The location

Cool air

Because nothing beats naturally cool weather =) Was up in Cameron Highlands last weekend. And on the way up we realised: My bro has car sickness. That aside, it was a very uneventful trip. My dad thought me something too! Have you ever seen step-like slopes along the roads that are cut out from the mountains? Those are known as... Ba... Err, I forgot. But you know what it is. Apparently according to Malaysian regulations, they must not be more than 6 per slope and each step must not be more than 6 meters high. But that's not the case for most of the slopes. Please, those slopes are SO high you cannot possibly limit the steps to only 6! So, like most Malaysian rules, it can be altered to suit the case. You know, altered. Anyway, engineering is fascinating =) Especially about airports! And my dad loves them too. I suspect I'm very much like my dad. When he loves something he will babble on and on and on about it, usually to a person who will not be listening to him at all. Ki
