When people think of Port Dickson, they associate it with beach. A really really dirty beach.

Guess what? I went there and what I saw was a really dirty and colourful beach littered with plastic bag in any colour possible. So much for wanting to play in the sea and building sand castles.

But no fear! Our hotel makes up for the horrendous looking beach.

(Doesn't look horrendous but pictures always make ugly things look pretty. When you walk up close to the beach you see black fragments floating around. Such a turn off =< )

Grand Lexis Hotel (formerly known as The Legend International Water Homes). It's awesome because...

Not because it's on the sea...

Not because it has colourful slides in kiddy pools... (Which I played in yay!)

But because every room has it's own private pool =D

It is tiny but still, it's pretty cool ;) Figuratively and also literally. Because this private pool is not really exposed to the sun, it was freezing when we went in for a dip (impossible to swim in it). I almost had flu after swimming it in but luckily I didn't.

Overall experience there was ok.

But I wouldn't come here again =S I guess people come to this hotel for the novelty factor... The fact that there is a private pool in every room. But other than the pool, there is not much there to offer. And the buffet breakfast there is not really nice =S

I wanna go a real beach soon!!! >=O Somewhere I can swim in and build sandcastles on =(

a beautiful and cool month, full of rain and clouds in the overcast skies.

My appetite come and go, but when it does come, it's unsatisfiable.

Like that day, I was craving for something savoury. I had lots for lunch but yet, my stomach feels oddly empty =(

So I did the thing that I can only do at home: dig through the food cabinet and fridge.

And I end up making egg salad, and threw every possible thing I can get my hands on it.

4 eggs (Soft boiled!). Olives. Mayo. Italian herbs. And other stuff that I forgot.

Served on oven-toasted bread =D

Bought cake from De Pastry Chef last week. I tried German Cheesecake. Nothing much to say. It's so-so.

It's the end of July and I barely posted anything here.

It was an eventful month. Emotionally and physically.

Worked as a promoter. Went to Klang with KMK sisters. Here I thank Hui Yi, Yi Ting, Ying Sze, Xuan Ling, EJ and Wei Ling again =) The seafood and bak kut teh was awesome hehe. And for the first time ever I was one of the driver O.O I never drove so much before but it was fun =)

Hanged out with Ariel and Qis too. Watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 together and the movie was great! I miss HP and the gang already... And the next day we went to Urbanscapes! Truthfully, everything there was overpriced (but so cute), the music wasn't all that good (except for Liyana Fizi), the entrance ticket was expensive too. And the sun! I have a horrible tan line now... But being able to hang out with my friends made it all worth it =)

Afternoons of my holidays are very uneventful and boring. I really need to find something to do >.<

By the way here is something random. Mom wanted to buy toothbrush so I saw Systema toothbrushes which is pretty affordable... So we bought it.

During study week for finals, I listened to the radio and there was this advertisement about Systema toothbrushes. All day long, I listen to the woman and man saying '0.02mm bristles... 0.02mm... 0.02mm'. Till now I remember that the bristles are 0.02mm while I totally forgot about important numbers that i studied throughout the 2 study weeks =.= The power of repetition...

See! 0.02mm bristles!

And been enjoying the clouds lately =) Perfect weather for cloud watching...

I wonder if there is any cloud appreciation/watcher club in Malaysia...

I've been swimming so much this holiday that my swimming suit has gotten loose. Feels like my pants are gonna drop of whenever I swim and it's pretty annoying when I have to readjust the position of my pants when I'm trying to concentrate on my swimming.

But loose swimming suits aside, swimming is pretty fun =) Never thought of myself as the swimming type of girl... Actually I'm still not a swimming type of girl but I'm too bored so I have to fill up my time with whatever activity position.

There are many interesting things you can see when you go to a swimming pool. Kids screaming in the kids pool. Young parents teaching their baby how to swim in a yellow arm float (why must it always be yellow?). Old ladies in their swimming suit hanging out at the edge of the pool catching up with gossip.

But personally, the best view at the pool when under the water. You get to see bodies of people you don't know hahahaha. I'm just joking I'm not a pervert =D

While I'm blurting out random things about the pool, here is another one to complete this post: My fave thing to see under the water and the thing I don't really enjoy seeing.

Fave thing:

A woman's hair while she is swimming.

Not tucked into those unflattering caps. I'm sure it's convenient but... Yea, not flattering at all.

But when you let loose your hair in the water, it makes a woman look so sexy ;)

PS: I'm 100% straight. Thank you.

What I do not like seeing:

Fat wobbling around when a person swims.

It just isn't that... attractive.

But my family have got to stop buying these babies. RM7.90 for 100grams. It's not that cheap is it? =( Good food is never cheap... Except Pasar Malam food and some hawker food. And homecooked food.

But you know what is annoying? My family is separated into two groups when it comes to Famous Amos: Chocolate Chip and Pecan eaters and No Nut eaters. I'm a Pecan eater and I always have to look spend extra time looking into the cookie bag to look for those with pecans. Why can't we all just be pecan lovers? =(

Just bought this yesterday and me and my sis (No Nut eater) are halfway through the packet already.

Munch munch. They are even better with cold milk ;)

Hmm. Been feeling weird lately =/

Diary of My Brother

One of the few English books (or rather, the only English book) that my brother reads is Diary of a Wimpy Kid. And it's a really good book =D Funny, witty, dumb and also cute. They even made a movie out of this book, so that must be saying something right? Two movies. Out of a children's book!

Haha so I was reading one of the books just now, the latest installment, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. My brother was so enthusiastic about the book that he bought it in hard cover =.=

Tada! When I open the book, guess what I saw?

If you still don't get what I am talking about, my brother crossed out the author's name and written in his own name. Sometimes he can be really funny XD

Nothing much is happening with my life boring life now. Job searching isn't successful and... I dunno lah. It's hard.

That day we also had a mini family reunion. A pre-delivery celebration for my cousin. She made delicious laksa (had 1 1/2 bowls of it and I was bloated!) and made blueberry muffins which she let us tapao home =) Her secret to fluffy, soft and tastiest muffins ever? Use good qualify extra virgin olive oil (She uses Covatina). Usually when we bake muffin, we use normal cheap oil like sunflower and that's why our muffin isn't as delicious as hers.

Berjaya Hills/ Colmar Tropicale

Visited this place last week. It was a really really last minute trip. And we only ended up here because our driver (aka dad) misunderstood mom's words. She wanted to go Bukit Tinggi, a small hillside village beside the highway on the way back from Kuantan for dinner but dad assumed she wanted to go Berjaya Hills. But it's all good =)

It's been years since we've been here and I have to say, nothing changed. Except for the addition of a Pusat Latihan Perumahan thingy and a mosque en route to the French village looking place (as shown in photo below). Oh and the buildings look kinda dilapidated. There are some renovation work going on. I mean, you can see the equipments required for renovation is there but you don't see the workers. Hmm...

Cool weather (Not as cold as Genting though). Fresh but occasionally you smell horse poop. Haha.

Saw this knight armor in the hotel lobby and I couldn't resist taking a photo with it XD Reminds me of Alphonse Elric from Full Metal Alchemist.

Another thing about this trip is my mom keep talking about the swans that live there. She and my dad were commenting how just few years ago there were more swans. Now there are only 2 black swans and 3 white swans left =(

By the way, swans make this very cute noise but I forgot how it sounded like.

Personally, I don't think this place is a nice tourist attraction. It's kinda boring and too quiet if you come with your family. But if someone were to bring me bird watching over then I wouldn't mind =D In my short time there, I already saw few birds I don't see on un-hilly places. Nature =)

Didn't get to visit the Japanese Tea house and other tourist attractions there as it's getting kinda late and I'm cranky from feeling hungry. Haha.

Apple crumble.

The unproductive life is really getting onto me and so I made a list of things to do. Hopefully I will bring myself to do them and not brood about being lifeless for the rest of the holidays. You can always find something to do right?

After spending the whole of this morning feeling useless and also watching cooking shows on Food Network Asia, I decided I had enough. No more lounging on the sofa staring at the TV. It's time to do something more productive. So I opened my laptop, Googled for some recipes and ended up with this:

I have never tasted apple crumble before but I saw that I had all the ingredients needed for the recipe and thought: Why not?

I didn't wanted to use all the apples, just in case the recipe fails and I ended up wasting ingredients, which will make me feel even more depressed and guilty. So I tweaked the recipe a bit and into the oven it goes!

(The one on the left looks flat... Because there is no apple underneath all the crumbles. I made too much crumbles...)

Turned out pretty good even though I didn't brown the crumble as needed by the recipe but it's still warm and crispy and a little bit of chewy to compliment the mushy apples. It was a tad too sweet and the next time I make it I'll reduce the sugar.

Job Searching

And I've been rejected twice today. Four times if you count all the times I've been rejected. And lots of more indirectly rejected me by cancelling off the 'part time' from their job vacancy sign outside their shop. Sigh.

Been feeling pretty bored and desperate to find a job now but finally now I properly realise how people don't like to hire part timers. It's depressing arrrggghh.

Actually I don't need a job because I'm broke (touch wood!) but because I have too much spare time. And too much spare time makes me a really really bored girl. And when that happens, I get really frustrated and makes me depressed and I feel like my life is not worth living. That's what happens when I get too much free time.

PS: If anybody reading this now and knows any job I can do please tell me! XD

Petrosains and Pie

Last Tuesday me, my brother and sister went to KLCC's Petrosains. I've been wanting to go there since forever and since it's my brother's holiday and I cannot stand him facing the PS2/computer everyday playing F1/Club Penguin/Plant vs. Zombie/Facebook games, I decided to bring him there.

Petrosains' facilities are way better than The National Science Centre's and much more interesting. There are so many things I would love to try but sadly, because it's the school holidays now, the place is packed. Doesn't help that school authorities decides to organise school trip to the place during the holidays. 'Add salt on already salted thing' XD

And yesterday I finally made pot pie! We made chicken mushroom pot pie and it was awesome! Simple and yummy... I didn't have enough and my mom wanted to try some so I made more today ;)

Made using fresh button mushroom, onion, chicken and cream. Cook them together (at the correct sequence of course) and reduce the cream until the consistency you want and done! Put them in a ramekin and cover with puff pastry (I bought ready made ones at Carrefour) and bake until the pastry is golden brown. That simple =)

Oh and we made Strawberry Sorbet yesterday. I would say it's a failure because I didn't mash it up properly to a silky smooth consistent while freezing it but even when it's melted it taste pretty ok.

Kampung! (Part 3)

After a great night sleep at my mom's hometown, it's time to head back home again.

But before heading directly back to Selangor, we made a detour and went to Kuala Sepetang to try out a curry mee which my mom said was highly recommended by a friend. But when we arrived there at 12pm, it was still closed so we ate laksa from a random shop which is kinda nice too. Then we walked around and I found out...

Kuala Sepetang is Port Weld! I don't remember exactly what Port Weld is but I remember it's something related to Sejarah. According to my mom it's something to do with 'lombong' since this KTM used to connect to Taiping and the whole Perak state is famous for it's mining activities during British occupation =)

We also tried out Malay Prawn Mee but it does not suit our taste buds. It contains too much ketchup and taste kinda like Mee Rebus.

After an unsatisfactory meal, my uncle brought us to a mangrove swamp. Sadly, it was very badly maintained. Some parts of the boardwalk collapsed and badly replaced by flimsy looking pieces of wood. Fearing the kid's safety, my dad decided to turn around and not finish walking through the whole boardwalk.

There were chalets beside the boardwalk too but I think no one ever stayed there... Sigh. If that place was maintained better and has better advertising it would be so much better...

Since it's a mangrove swamp it's located near the river. A very muddy dirty looking river.

I felt really close to nature then and I guess it impaired my judgement because I have this really strong urge to jump into the river eventhough the water looks disgusting. But of course I didn't jump in in the end =P

Camwhoring with cousins. The wind was strong (Explains the baldness) and the sun was strong (Explains the small slit like eyes)

=) Love clouds.

Me emo cannot jump into the river. But I still manage to touch the swamp water. Hey, it's clean enough to support life! I saw tiny fishes swimming in it =D

After that short trip to the swamp, we went to Taiping and bought the Mi Gu my mom wants. Mi Gu is a pink colour sweet bun which is usually put on the prayer altar (Sorry I'm not sure what is it called >.<) Yummy bun =D

Head home after that... I slept for 2 hours in the car but I woke up even more tired than before I slept =.=

And that concludes my kampung trip!

Kampung! (Part 2)

After being satisfied with walking around Teluk Batik beach, we went for dinner. Headed back to Sitiawan and went to Ludo Restaurant and had our dinner =)

Every year during Qing Ming my dad's side of the family will come to this restaurant for dinner and every single time we'll order these dishes: Red Wine Vermicelli (红酒面线), Ou Jian (Oyster omelette?) and Go Ru (Sweet and Sour Fish Stomach?- In chinese it is 酸辣鱼漂).

Love love love these dishes =) This year I didn't manage to go back for Qing Ming due to exams and I asked my dad to tapao it for me and delivered it to my hostel. But eating it freshly made at the restaurant is always better than eating it after it's tapao-ed.

Red wine vermicelli. My mom can make this dish as well eventhough she is not Foochow ;) Influenced from my dad's childhood food. By the way, my dad is not Foochow but Hokkien. His family are the odd ones out at the village.

Yum-meh =) I wanted to eat more but there are more dishes going to be served so I settled with a tiny bowl of this =(

Sweet and sour fish belly (stomach?) I absolutely looove this. Always ask my mom to cook this at home but good quality fish belly is not readily available and my mom doesn't like using lesser quality fish belly because they have a very strong oil smell.

The best oyster omelette I've ever tasted anywhere =) The oyster is rightly sized. Some oyster omelette have oversized oyster (Just like the ones I tasted in Taiwan) and to me it's disgusting =S You can feel the inerts spilling into your mouth while you chew on it.

There are other dishes too but... I was too busy eating to really take more photos. Hehe.

Then we head back to my mom's kampung. My sister don't really like going back to my mom's hometown but personally, I love that place. It's quiet and secluded and far away from the city... I'm so not a city girl, and will probably never be one =3 And most importantly, it's dark. Not light pollution to block my view from the Milky Way =)

My cousins have a dog named Brown and she just gave birth to puppies... Which they gave away =( Not that I want the puppies but I love to play with baby animals.

Dog's teeth! Haha it's intersting to note the difference between their teeth and human teeth.

Bark bark!

That night I spent 1 hour lying on my uncle's Proton just looking at the stars =) Talked to my cousin and we tried to look for the Big Dipper. I think we found it but we are not really sure. But still, it's pure bliss just lying there enjoying the view.

The only thing there to ruin it was the mosquitoes. Sad.

Kampung! (Part 1)

Last weekend I balik kampung. I love road trips =) But I hate being on the road

First we head to Ayer Tawar/Sitiawan where my dad grew up (but nobody from my dad's side of the family stays there anymore). Our main reason for stopping over at this town is because my dad wants to buy food from his childhood which are mainly Foochow snacks. In that region of Perak Foochow people dominates so if you are interested to divulge in Foochow food, you can go there.

While waiting for a shop to finish making a Foochow snack known as KomPiang, we went to a cendol shop in front of The Store at Sitiawan town. According to a framed photo over there, they served royalty before =O It used to taste nice but their standards dropped. Or maybe I lost my sweet tooth...

Oh before cendol we went to a shop that sells traiditional Foochow delicacies and bought so so so much stuff it's scary.

Since we had time to spare before going back to my mom's kampung house, we stopped over at Teluk Batik. Going to public beaches on school holiday weekend is definitely not a smart choice. But I still love the beach =) It's gorgeous and any photos you take there is amazing =)

I love being around nature. Makes me feel... Happy.

Homemade burgers

What I had for dinner tonight:

Lady's Fingers. Okra. Whatever you call them. Very yummy when cooked with dried shrimps (just like in the photo) or with sambal belacan.

I like how the red chilli flakes add a little more dimension to this photo =)

But the real star of this post are the burgers we made at home today.

In case you don't know what am I talking about, it's the arrangement of the contents of my burger XD

The chicken patty doesn't look appetising. My brother even thought it was uncooked and didn't finish his burger. I finished my burger but truthfully, the patty wasn't nice. I forgot what brand of chicken patty my mom bought but it is not Ramley.

Piano

Growing up, I used to play the piano.

I'm not sure about the others but I personally hated piano while I grew up. One of the main reasons was because I suck at piano. I can never ever play a song without making a mistake (even during the exams). No matter how much I practice, how easy the song is, my fingers will undoubtedly fumble and bam! Sound pollution =(

Another reason is because my teacher always concentrated on examination songs. Once I finish my piano practical examination, my teacher will start on next grade's examination song. This means I rarely have a chance to play music that I actually like and know. Gradually, I lost interest.

Oh, of course there is the fact that I am lazy. Hehehe. When it comes to piano, I'm a procrastinator. A really horrible one... Because the only time I truly practice piano is DURING piano class. Haha you can imagine how pissed my piano teacher was.

But during this holidays, I found time to dig out some of my lower grade piano books and started playing some of them by sight reading. I realised... I can actually produce music =O Something that I enjoy listening and even my dad say it was pretty good. Haha.

I played simplified version of Skater's Waltz and Musetta's Waltz. Love them.

I actually downloaded some higher graded piano pieces... But then again, I feel lazy.

Time to procrastinate again >.<

Green Tea

I used to despise green tea. Not green tea the drink itself but rather, stuff that are made flavoured with green tea. Green tea ice cream, green tea cake, green tea whatever there is. The colour doesn't look appetising at all. Dark green... It reminds us of vegetables and truth be told, who likes the taste of chlorophyll? It's so... grassy.

But one day while out on a shopping trip with my family, we decided to eat ice cream. I wasn't in the mood for rich flavoured ice cream like chocolate, nor was I in the mood for ice cream I've eaten before. In short, I was in an adventurous mood so... I tried green tea ice cream!

The first green tea ice cream I tried was from some gelato shop. At first, the chlorophyll smell was overwhelming but the more I eat, the more I enjoy the surprisingly refreshing combination of green tea, the coldness and creaminess. Haha I'm bad at describing how food (or anything for that matter) feels and taste like. Just try it! Maybe you'll like it =)

And from then on, I started to try other foods that contain green tea. One of it is matcha au lait. It's green tea plus milk. I've always tried it warm but I think it would taste better cold. Creamy but the green tea smell isn't too strong.

This adventurous foodie eventually tried out the new Secret Recipe Green Tea Cheesecake as well...

And she has to say: She didn't enjoy it.

The combination of cream cheese and green tea somehow made the green tea smell become too overpowering. Not nice not nice not nice~

Yucky.

But Green Tea flavoured Snow Ice? Awesome =D

My mom too got introduced to matcha through Sakae Sushi's genmaicha, which is roasted brown rice with green tea. I found out that she likes green tea too when she suggested we buy green tea cake from RT Pastry Shop (Subang Jaya branch). Sorry but there is no photo available of the cake. It is way better than Secret Recipe's take on Green Tea cake. Green tea fans staying around Subang should try it =D

By the way, I realised that green tea stuff is always coupled with red bean. I wonder why?

On Dad's iPhone

I've taken to taking photos on my dad's iPhone recently because it actually take pretty decent photos. Sure DSLR let's you take better photo but let's face it, it's so unconvenient to carry it around all the time. I actually get backaches when I carry it around for hours during family trips where I'm the designated photographer. So yea, I actually get fed up with all the trouble I have to go through to lug my DSLR all around =(

So now I just settle with something that I can carry around. Or rather, my dad carries around him all the time, his phone. So why not make use of it? =D

Since I came home for the loooooooooooong holidays, I've been out pretty often with my family for brunch/lunches/dinner where I can't help but take photos of yummy pictures =D

The first week I came back, we went to eat at Purple Cane Restaurant at it's original branch at the Chinese Assembly Hall. I've always enjoyed eating there since I was a kid and I haven't been there for a few years now. As always, we ordered this dish:

Erm, sorry I don't know what's its name haha. But doesn't it look good =D

Oh and Purple Cane dishes are famous for using tea in all it's dishes. It's most obvious example is their rice. As you can see below, there are few strands of tea leaves on the rice. It doesn't actually give out a really obvious aroma but I just enjoy the presence of the tea leaf on my rice. If you are still desperate to smell the tea, you have to put your nose really really close to the rice. You can try, but people might think you are a weirdo.

Last weekend we went to have dimsum at USJ Taipan. Wasn't satisfactory.

And for dinner tonight, we went to a seafood grill restaurant near Klang and also very near to my primary school.

Food was nice. The price tag? Not so. They totally scammed us. RM44 for 5 tiny lamb chops. I will never eat there again! Never! You can buy 8 lamb chops two times the size of those they sell for only RM18.

The yam mee was great and taste almost similar to Hokkien Mee.

Nyam nyam... There was celery in it but I barely noticed it as it's strong smell is totally covered by the kicap. I'm not really sure whether it's a good thing...

Grilled crabs. In a hmm... Not so appropriate position =S

My brother has smash-crab-shell fetish. Really.

Speaking of my brother,

he unfriended me on Facebook.

And I have to add him again.

... A request which he accepted.

One of my resolution for this holiday is to cook.

But till I didn't had much chance to cook. Okay, not that I wasn't given the chance but I was just plain... You know, lazy.

And it's been a long time since I last cooked anything (other than the olio) and when I felt hungry just now (barely 2 hours after I had my lunch), I decided to cook up something.

Indomee. And fried egg.

Cooking the Indomee? No problem. Even babies can do it.

When it comes to the egg? Well... there is the problem. It seems I lost all my basic cooking skills and I lost the ability to fry an egg. It turned out so ugly because somehow I forgot how to flip an egg. Haha but it's still edible.

And my tummy is not complaining so it's good enough =)

Oh and sorry for the ugly photos. But there are reasons behind them being so ugly.

Last week I had the chance to eat cupcakes from Bisou. Bought it in Bangsar. Under usual circumstances, I won't buy this kind of stuff since it cost so much but my sis wanted to try it and I was craving for sweet unhealthy food. Ignoring the RM5 per cupcake price tag, I bought two, one for me and one for my sister.

The one of the right is Red Velvet which was awesome =D The cupcake was moist and soft and I love how the savoury cream cheese 'icing' complement the sweetness of the cake. Yum yum... So much better than Cupcake Chic's cupcake which looks pretty but completely relies on the icing for taste. The cake was dry and left a really really bad impression on me.

Oh and my sis' cupcake was Vanilla Sky, vanilla cake with vanilla icing. It was nice too but it's a normal flavour you can get anywhere so it didn't left much impression on me.

Oh yea the photo looks ugly because somehow the cupcakes toppled over and the icing got squashed.

So if you are craving for some cupcakes, try out Bisou's cupcake (and not Cupcake Chic's) because it's yum-meh!

Then few days ago I tried to make guacamole again. For those who dunno what is guacamole, it is a dip that is made using avocado, tomatoes, garlic and onion. Because of the last two ingredients, it has a very strong smell much some people may not like.

Initially the smell turned me off at first but after eating it it taste pretty nice. It is kinda sweet, crunchy (from the onions) and mushy at the same time.

I know it looks horrible. I can never do justice to mashed food on the camera.

Serve it with nachos =D

Yum yum yum. Got the recipe from allrecipes. The recipes from that website are pretty satisfactory, as long as you check out the reviews and comments that other users posted up. Follow their suggestions too and you'll do just fine =D

Oh the reason I tried making guacamole is because I read about it in Meg Cabot's 'All American Girl' and somehow the name manage to catch my attention and tadaa!

Glee

Glee may annoy the hell out of some people. And truth is, it occasionally annoys me too. The storyline is unrealistic and don't even get me started on the characters. Mr. Shue, Mr. Shue's ex-wife who faked her pregnancy and whose name I don't bother trying to remember, Quinn Febrey, even Rachel Berry is annoying.

That said, I still enjoy Glee most of the time. There are still some redeeming characters and the best part about Glee? The music! Surprise surprise... Not. I especially love their mashups. They are awesome =D

The good thing about Glee is that it revives oldies and reintroduce young people to oldies =D

2nd week into 4 months holiday. I planned to bake some stuff. Hopefully I get my lazy bum off the sofa and make some of my plans work before the holidays end...

Holidays

So holidays have started and we are now into week 2 of my... 4 months holiday.

So I guess I'm feeling pretty bored. Hence this random update of my blog which haven't been updated in so long.

I have a few ideas how to spend my holiday but guess what? I'm too lazy and make too many excuses for myself. Typical me. Make another amigurumi? No yarn (Truth: Lazy). Learn to cook? Lazy (But hey at least I made aglio e olio for my family's breakfast this morning- But it was under duress)

Feeling bored is not good. But at least I'm not feeling stressed or suicidal like I was during the last month for my 1st professional exam. The horror >.<
