Red Velvet Cupcakes

By far my most successful venture into baking in... 2 years? Ever since I entered university, all my baking product ended up either 1. Not rising (even when I follow the recipe and add the exact amount of baking powder and soda that the recipes call for)  2. Or it's outsides get burnt but it's inside are unbaked >.< In other words, pretty inedible. Mom has been craving for red velvet cake for almost a week and she's been pestering me to buy the cake whenever I run across them outside. But as luck have it, there are no red velvet cakes to be found. So I decided to matters into my own hands and bake the cake for my mom! (See mummy, don't you ever say I only bake cakes for my boyfriend. I baked this one for you hehe) This cake also marks the VERY FIRST TIME I'm using food colouring. Since forever, I balk at the idea of using artificial colouring for cakes. And before yesterday (before I properly researched about the cake), I naively thought t

SOULed OUT

I'm gonna talk about FOOD again! My favourite blogging topic muahahaha. I have other passions too but there are all pretty... Scientific? Haha they will bore you to death. So yea, food is the best topic to blog about =) Especially here in Malaysia food connects us all. I've only met a person who doesn't enjoy eating (WHY!?). She is weird (You know who you are haha) First, a HUGE cup of coffee to awaken your senses. My daddy always order a kopi O whenever possible. I think he fancies himself as a Kopi O connoisseur haha =3 But I keep my distance from coffee. Coffee makes me jittery and anxious. Even drinking tea makes my heart go on overdrive grr. Mummy has been wanting to visit SOULed OUT since awhile ago but we just didn't get around to visiting the place, until today. SOULed OUT has two branches but we went to the one in Sri Hartamas. Took us quite some time (and a lot of help from iPhone's Maps application) but we manage to find the place. The location

The first proper cake

What you see here is the first proper cake I've ever baked. Proper as in the cake is a spongecake and it has cream! All the successful cakes I've baked previously were all butter cakes. I've attempted making chiffon cakes a few years back but they've never risen and I had to throw the whole cake away T.T Threw away 6 good eggs! (required to make the chiffon cake). And from then on, I avoided making any cakes other than butter cake. But yesterday I conquered my fear (bleh) and made a spongecake... Complete with buttercream! To be exactly, a Checkerboard Cake. It's supposed to turn out like this: (google image) BUT, it turned out like this: HAHAHA.  Eh but still got the checkerboard appearance la so I'm still pleased XD And surprisingly, even my mom said this cake was nice =O Yay! But the buttercream was too sweet. Quote my dad: I got diabetes after I took my first bite.  I forgot to halved the sugar from the recipe I found on

More food pictures

Because I'm still feeling pretty aimless. And holidays haven't even properly started and I'm already feeling aimless. Hmm =/ Anyway been hanging out and shopping with my family. And of course, with  my family, there is one element that cannot be missed out: FOOD. First time trying out 'Hong Zhao' fried rice. It's yummy but I was feeling very full so I didn't eat much =( Rocky Road... brownies? Forgot the name haha. But it's so gorgeous I decided to put two photos of it hahaha. But again, chocolate stuff also don't sit well in my tummy so it wouldn't say it's THAT good. But for chocolate fans maybe it's yummy =) - - - On another note, I did something erm... I don't really forward to yet still really wanted to go, to at least experience it once in my lifetime. It's all over now and I didn't regret it but now I know one thing: I'LL NEVER EVER DO IT AGAIN. EVER. And I learnt something t

Baci: Italian Cafe

Where my cousin had a birthday party for her husband.    It's located at a mall which I didn't know existed. Unlike Paradigm Mall which had extensive advertisement prior to it's opening, I didn't knew of Citta Mall until, well, last weekend which was the day of my cousin's husband's birthday. Aglio e olio. I know the name because... I always make this dish! Baci Salad. The olives are the best! I've never liked purple lettuce. Yes they look pretty but the taste ToT Reminded me of a story. My friend never ate purple lettuce (Don't know what's its exact name) before but she wanted to make salad. She was attracted by it's purple-ness and made a purple lettuce-honeydew salad. Erm, well, it's as tasty as the name suggest XD Lasagna. So-so. Roasted chicken. Dad had lunch here before and he said the standard of food that day wasn't up to par. Gelato which doesn't taste like gelato. It's highly UNrecom

The Study Week Diary

And so finally exam is over. I hope. Tiring weeks, tired of studying and hope these 2 months of break will give my brain, well... A break. Haha. Anyway, here is a collection of random photos I took during study week. I DO want to blog but I think exam sucked the life out of me so what I type/say here will sound pretty boring for awhile until I get my mojo back. Or until I get enough sleep. Even after exam I still have insomnia what the heck o.O Little kid on a little motorcycle. So adorable! People like to organise mini gatherings at Titiwangsa Lake for weird activities such as this (Dunno what's this called. Mini Motor Race?) and roller blading. Something I found from my old notes. Don't even remember I drew this XD Free biscuits from my friend during the pseudo-study week week! <3 Yummy! Random piece of blueberry. There is actually a star shape on the blueberry but it's pretty hard to see it in the picture =O The super adorable th
